Integrated Coastal Zone and Maritime policy and management
Two
third
of
the
worlds
population
lifes
in
100
km
of
the
coastal
zone.
Here
the
land
use
and
marine
use
are
meeting each other, with a special function for the coast, as marine defence, tourism area, harbour, etc.
The
use
by
the
different
stakeholders
are
strongly
interacting
with
each
other.
Fishery
and
transport
are
using
the
same
water
as
bathers
and
canalisation,
and
rivers
which
are
transporting
a
lot
of
waste
are
ending up at the coastal waters.
It is not the question what is the best use, but what is the optimal acceptable use.
Integrated
Coastal
zone
management
is
finding
and
creating
win-win
situations
for
groups
of
stakeholders
without harming others. To limit these uses which are doing to much harm to others users.
Coastal
zone
management
cannot
be
seen
independent
from
river
basin
management,
as
the
coastal
waters
are
strongly
influenced
by
the
river
input,
like
nutrrients,
silt,
sand,
clay,
pollution
etc.
An
integrated
approach is therefore promoted.
